About SIP trunking

What is SIP trunking?

SIP trunking delivers phone service over your internet connection instead of traditional copper lines. Your PBX connects to Resonance Telcom using the SIP protocol, and we connect your calls to the public phone network.

What is a SIP channel?

A channel is one simultaneous call path. Ten channels let ten calls happen at the same time, in any mix of inbound and outbound.

How many channels do I need?

Count the most calls your business has going at once during its busiest hour, then add a little headroom. If you are unsure, send us a recent phone bill and we will help you size it.

PBX support

Will Resonance Telcom work with my phone system?

If your PBX or gateway supports SIP, almost certainly. We publish setup guides for 3CX, FreePBX, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Grandstream, Cisco, Allworx and Switchvox.

What if my phone system is older and does not support SIP?

Many legacy PBX and key systems connect through a SIP gateway or analog telephone adapter. Tell us what you have and we will suggest the simplest option.

Do I need new desk phones?

No. Your phones talk to your PBX, and your PBX talks to us. Nothing changes at the desk.

Features

What comes with every account?

A self-service portal, real-time call records, local and toll-free numbers, and support from engineers who understand SIP.

Configuration and deployment

How long does setup take?

Once your account is active, setup is a short checklist: enter our settings in your PBX, assign your numbers and place test calls. Our team can walk you through it.

What internet connection do I need?

Plan on roughly 90 kbps in each direction per simultaneous call using the G.711 codec, on a stable connection with low jitter. A business-grade connection with QoS on your router gives the best results.

Can I connect more than one PBX or location?

Yes. You can create multiple trunks under one account, one per site or phone system, and manage them all from the same portal.

Business continuity

What happens to inbound calls if my office loses internet?

Your numbers live in the network, not in your building, so they can be pointed at another trunk or destination from the portal while you fix the problem.

Is SIP trunking reliable enough for my business?

With a solid internet connection and sensible configuration, yes. Many businesses add a second internet connection so calls keep flowing if one provider has an outage.

Can SIP trunking help with disaster recovery?

Yes. Because numbers are not tied to physical lines, you can route calls to a different site or system when one location is unavailable.

Do you work with resellers and IT providers?

Yes. See our partner program for reseller, agent, MSP and technology partnerships.

Reporting

Can I see my call history?

Yes. The portal shows real-time call detail records you can search by date, number or trunk, and export for your own reporting.

Do call records include inbound and outbound calls?

Yes. Every call on your trunks appears, with direction, duration, and the numbers involved.

Phone numbers

Can I get numbers in other area codes?

Yes. Order local numbers in the area codes you need, subject to availability, and assign them to any trunk.

Do you offer toll-free numbers?

Yes. Toll-free numbers can be added to any account alongside local numbers.

Billing

How does billing work?

You pay a flat monthly rate per channel and per phone number. See our pricing page for current rates.
